“Translation is Bad for Integration”, says ‘Old Europe’!

Take a look at this article and tell us what you think.

Highlights:

Britain’s Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly has announced that “Councils will be told to axe translation services for immigrants to encourage them to learn English”

And then:

Miss Kelly said the £100million of taxpayers’ money spent every year on interpretation was being used as a “crutch” for foreigners to fail to integrate into British society.

France has also announced that would-be immigrants will be tested for their knowledge of French language and culture before they come to France.

So, translators/interpreters who have depended on that “market” (immigrants) for their livelihood had better start thinking of diversifying!
